Annual Fun Run
The 10th Annual Burgh's Pizza & Wing Pub 10K / 5K Runs and 2 Mile Fun Walk benefiting the development and maintenance of the Montour Trail was help on Sunday April 25, 2010 at Cecil Park / Montour Trail in Cecil PA. Following some tenuous early morning weather the clouds parted and the sun brightened the park as our event kicked off with 584 registered runners or walkers {the largest registration in the 10 year history of our event}. The 5K Run kicked off our festivities at 9:15 am with a total of 223 finishers, lead by overall winner Stephen Hensey with a time of 17:56, and the woman's winner Tammy Kirksey finishing with a time of 21:55. At 10:00 am 242 - 10K runners hit the trail for an opportunity at one of our cash prizes for the top 3 male and female finishers. Leading the way with a finishing time of 31:55 was overall 10K winner Jeff Weiss earning the top prize of $300 followed by Jay Dolmage {33:43} and Eric Shafer {35:15}. Finishing first in the woman's 10K was Megan Wright with a time of 37:19 taking home the woman's top prize of $300, followed by Heather Parks {38:49} and Michelle Corkum {39:13}. At 10:15 am in excess of 75 participants headed off on our 2 Mile Fun Walk, which for the first time was held entirely on the Montour Trail given the recent completition of a new segment of the Trail heading in the opposite direction of our 10K and 5K runs. Complete 10K and 5K Runs results are listed at www.runhigh.com.
The success of our event goes to the great group of volunteers from local businesses, Montour Trail Council members, Cecil Twp. Parks & Rec, Cecil Police Dept., South Bridge EMS, Burgh's team members and especially Race Committee members. In addition to our volunteers we had 34 local busniness partners and customers contribute $15,935 in cash donations along with in excess of $3500 of in-kind food, beverages, fruit, etc... Special thanks to our Corporate Partners {$2500 monetary donation} to Commelec Electric, DeBlasio Beverage and Wilson-McGinley Distributing for their ongoing support.
Total revenue collected between registration fees of $13,436 and monetary donations of $15,935 equals $29,371. Following event expenditures of approximately $10,110 we look forward to presenting a check to the Montour Trail Council in the near future in the amount $18,750.00 {bringing our 10 year total support to the Montour Trail to $185,750} and a check to the Cecil Township Parks & Recreation of $250.00.
